In the last post, I described my experience of applying for the Google Venkat Panchapakesan Scholarship (Deadline: 6th July), but couldn't go much into the details of how I framed the application. So the objective of this post is to highlight some of the aspects which I believe helped my application.

Disclaimer: Of course this is just one data point, so take it with a grain of salt and don’t consider it as the absolute way of preparing your application. In fact, try to make it even better.

Suggestion: Before reading further, maybe try to write an initial draft or even just think of some ideas on how you would go about the answering the questions asked. The reason is that this will help you to not get biased towards how others had answered previously and also allow for more creativity/originality into your answers.

Without further adieu, let's look into the first question of the application:

How do you plan to use computer science to make the world a more sustainable place?

The theme of the answer should essentially reflect your passion towards Computer Science. You might really like one or more of machine learning, theoretical computer science, security, systems or whatever. The particular area(s) would matter less. Rather the direction in which you want to channel your interest or passion matters more.
