Man & Machine: From Command To Collaboration

- “When man wanted to make a machine that would walk, he created the wheel … which does not resemble a leg.” Yes, staying relevant in the current times while simultaneously gearing up for the future is an innate human quality. Which is why, over thousands of years, the partnership between man and machine has grown with every new turn that generations have taken, bringing us to this day, when it’s not man-led-and-machine-executed anymore, but where the two think, do and learn together. The very dynamics of the bond they shared have changed … from command to collaboration.
- Decades ago, when the computer was first brought into the picture, the only idea behind it was to execute various instructions but as times have changed so have the needs. Now we, humans fancy computers as our counterparts or maybe even better. Various machines are being built every day, providing huge advantages to the human race. From medication to lifestyle, everything has been made better by the introduction of new high tech. machines. Ideas like artificial embryos, brain transplant, gene editing are also being researched and breakthroughs which are only possible through new tech. are being done on a daily basis. More new and high tech. machines are being made using the available resources and it's a matter of time when people are going to be surrounded by robots and AI.
- But just like a coin has two sides, these developments also carry a huge peril with it and us humans are only to be blamed. Everyday we look to improve a machines computation power, skills aiming to create a perfect machine which may complement us in every task we do. Thus, creating a man-machine symbiosis.
- But what if it’s too perfect, what if this symbiosis soon turns in the favour of machines and may only lead to over-powering and the annihilation of the human race. People hope to create self-learning machines capable to think, communicate and most important of all, take decisions by themselves. In today’s world, where most things are automated, a small program might be enough to bring a nation to its knees. So just imagine what will happen if everything is automated and controlled by computers and robots. Humans are neither the fastest nor the strongest creatures on the planet but dominate for one reason: humans are the smartest. How might the balance of power shift if AI becomes super intelligence? Are we beckoning Angels or are we summoning Demons?
- Therefore, a boundary is to be marked regarding the development of such technology and if not then there would always lie the fear of our own creation overpowering us. To sum up, I would like to say that humans are the only creatures which are capable of advanced thinking and evolving, and it’s going to be for the greater good of the human race if they don't overthink it.
- Future is coming where nothing is predetermined or known and its only up to us to pave the path for the betterment of the humans.
