5 emerging trends in Indian healthcare start-ups
Unitus Seed Fund launched its healthcare focused competition cum mentoring program called StartHealth on 13th May 2015. As part of that program, we have met various startups in the healthcare space and I wanted to outline certain broad trends that we have noticed for the benefit of other healthcare entrepreneurs:
- B2B2C as the preferred model to reach out to customers and begin monetization
- Mix of product/wearables and service play (with service as the differentiator and major revenue generator)
- Partnerships with well established players as a means of establishing credibility and defensibility
- Focus on international (USA mostly) and domestic market concurrently (While international customer is of higher value and ready, the domestic market is a volume-based and long-term play)
- Emergence of doctors who are willing to give up cushy jobs and get their hands dirty with entrepreneurship
I would love to hear your thoughts and comments on these trends (for or against) as well as any additional ones that you might have noticed.
