Why should you wake up early?
Honestly, I was never a morning person. On weekends I love to sleep for a couple of extra hours and feel the cozy bed a little more. But I know people who are motivated enough to have an early start of the day. I envied them until I decided that I too would be a routine early riser.
Believe me, it’s worth it! If you stay in Bangalore and haven’t ever experienced the morning draught brushing past your skin, you definitely are missing a feeling of a lifetime. By making this simple change in your lifestyle, you will be getting tons of benefits starting from having good health to getting more time during the day to do something that you have been always planning to do but never got the time to start. Instead of blaming others for the time crunch that you face inevitably, you might end up finishing up a couple of other important work that you tend to push to the next day. One of those for me was visiting the gym.
You can find tons of articles over the internet blabbing about the benefits of exercising daily, but until you actually end up doing it, it will not be of any good to you. You must understand that the greatest investment which will have awesome returns throughout your time on this planet is your health. Health should be your first priority always. Period.
Just a simple jogging or running for an hour a day will make your heart go nuts and your brain will have an experience of a lifetime, not to mention other benefits that it will do to your body. It has now become a habit for me to run atleast half an hour daily since it completely makes you feel fresh and rejuvenated. I actually can feel the blood circulation going inside my brain and clearing up clogged areas in my brain. I started with 10–15 minutes of brisk walking on the treadmill and gradually increased to 15–20 minutes of running at a constant speed. During that time, nothing else crosses my mind except that I am running, simply running. And it’s really important for me. Getting your brain to focus on a single point for even a minute seemed like an impossible task until now.
As soon as I start feeling a little tiring, I try to keep myself motivated by looking at the digital meter of the treadmill and telling myself – I just need to cover a little more to complete 2 kilometers or just a little more to complete burning 200 calories or just a little more to complete running for 20 straight minutes. That is the first achievement that I end up having every single day.
After that intial running, I pickup some weights to make sure other body muscles don’t feel left out. Having your biceps and arms toned is a sure way to feel good and comfortable. Once you start seeing it’s effects your are definitely going to want to come back.
And when you are tired, you feel the cool breeze brushing past your body. That feeling makes every cell in my body feel that the effort was worthwhile! I just close my eyes and feel that fresh air cling to my body while I walk slowly back home. That one hour sets the tone for my day. If you still are not convinced, I would advise you to google a ted talk by Dr. Wendy Suzuki.
