Call of Bandh, Reservation and Demographics.
With rupee on steep downward slope, food prices and fuel prices will increase. Cost of transportation will increase as a result. With so many grand development projects going on with the borrowed money, country has to pay interest on loans. Weak domestic currency will simply increase the installments of loan money paid in foreign currencies. This can push India on a downward spiral of growth.
But, today "Bharat bandh" is called against SC/ST act. How easy it is to divert the issues here. I don't support any biased act or law, but is it okay to cancel it just because few people misused it? Is it the way to protest that you burn buses, close down markets by spreading terror and stop the trains. These protests are happening in BJP ruled states! Of course! They need it. Now few facts..
According to 2011 caste based census, SCs+ STs+ OBCs together constitute 69.3% of population. That leaves General with 30.7% of the population. Now, I hate to divide people like that personally but political parties see opportunity in that. Normally 40% votes are enough to form the government by winning elections, and if you want to win, then of course you will go to 69.3% of population. People from general category are happy to think that they hold the majority and they are important for parties to win elections. Well up to some level they are but not to the exaggeration they think they are.
It has been decided by Supereme court that governments can't extend reservation beyond 50%, so the 69.3% population is getting let's say 50% quota. That leaves the General section of 30.7% with 50% quota if you put it that way. Who is at disadvantage is a point of view which varies from people to people. Students who couldn't clear the required cut off cry that it happened because of reservation. No sir! It happened because your efforts fell short. You had 50% seats and if you say people from your section are more in competition then it simply justified the need of reservation for other sections.
Some estimates even put OBCs at 51% of population. If we believe them then General are only 20%. On this estimate or the earlier one, in both cases General are over represented in Parliament, Government jobs and colleges.
The constituencies are divided in country on 1971 census as basis. That means you, me and huge number of Indian population is somewhat misrepresented in elections. We have had 4 census after 1971 and, this base year 1971 will not change till 2026 elections. Reason for this is the difference in the rate of population growth of different states. Rapid growth of Rajasthan, UP, Bihar, Delhi, and Madhya Pradesh and controlled growth of southern states like Kerala and Tamil Nadu will create a difference where states like UP can have 400 MPs and Tamil Nadu will get only 60 MPs in future. This will again divide the country on biased lines. Obviously, Tamils or other communities will not like the domination of these Hindi states just because they had efficient population control drives while Hindi states were just multiplying like bugs. Then what will happen? Again a huge protest spree and destruction of life and property!
Why so much focus on elections and casteism. Freedom for me is when no community or individual cannot dare think of harming any other community or individual. Everyone should have that freedom for his/her personal development.
Talking about the economy should be the only talk politicians should hold but they divide people because we are ready to feel superior over others at every opportunity presented before us. Countries with multiple nationalities have to compromise on various issues.
For benefit of one political party, the harmony in society shouldn’t be disturbed.
