Upwork Reveals 10 Most-in-Demand Freelance Skills in 5 Different Categories for 2023
Upwork, the number one freelancing site, releases the most-in-demand freelance skills for 2023
I recently attended an Upwork expert talk: Freelance Industry Trends and In-Demand Skills 2023.
During the event, Will Simpson, Upwork community events manager, and Margaret Lilani, Upwork Vice President of Talent Solutions, shared the 10 most-in-demand skills of 2023 for technology, creativity, marketing & advertisement, and other services.
As reported by McKinsey, an American opportunity survey, around $59 million Americans do freelance work as independent contractors — generating $1.2 trillion in annual earnings.
And there has been a tremendous increase in freelance work recently, especially during this recession. And it’s no surprise because Independent GIG workers can make cash online while working from the comfort of their homes by offering services on freelance websites.
With that in mind, here are the top 10 skills for five categories released by Upwork: marketing skills, tech skills, customer service & admin support skills, design & creative skills, and accounting & consulting skills.

During the event, Upwork uncovered that the most in-demand skills, that’s, those with the highest year-over-year growth, are: sales & business development (54%), data entry (47%), accounting (45%), and 3D animation (44%).
Final thoughts
Freelancing is on the increase in 2023 as most people love working at their own pace and available time, not 9 to 5 jobs that can be so demanding.
