Mims earns honor; 49ers face tough test

A strong opening weekend earned Charlotte 49ers redshirt sophomore Jackson Mims Conference USA’s Hitter of the Week award.

Mims went 7-for-13 (.538), hitting two doubles, a triple and a home run while reaching base 10 times in 14 plate appearances. In addition, Mims was 8-for-8 from third base and the 49ers were the only team in the league to not commit an opening weekend error as they took two out of three games against West Virginia.

First road game provides major test

The Charlotte 49ers will travel to Columbia, S.C. on to battle the №4 South Carolina Gamecocks on Tuesday.

Left-handed junior pitcher Matt Horkey is slated to start against the Gamecocks (2–1), who will throw true freshman right-handed pitcher Sawyer Bridges. This will be Bridges first collegiate start.

The Gamecocks have won 23 of the 31 games in the all-time series.

First pitch is scheduled for 4p.m.
