Meet Nervous Germans

We caught up with Grant Stevens, singer and guitarist of Nervous Germans. This cult band has been rocking crowds since the early ’80s and shows no signs of stopping for anyone.

What do you play, and how long have you been playing?

I sing, play guitar and harmonica. I’ve been doing this for 41 years.

What was the first live concert you went to?

Can`t remember…Billy Thorpe probably.

Who is your biggest musical influence?

The Beatles, The Clash, Howlin’ Wolf

Tell us about the time you first played in front of a real audience (so, not your mom or dad).

I was in a daze, a complete adrenaline rush. I don’t recall any details whatsoever just this huge….”fuck yeah!!”

Tell us about the time you bought, or someone bought you, your first instrument. What was it?

A trumpet. It annoyed the hell out of my family and neighbours. Luckily, I wasn’t very good at it and started singing instead which was wholly acceptable to all concerned…until band practice in our lounge room.

What is your favorite record store in the world?

Dodo Beach, Berlin. http://youtu.be/CFjkRKfLXwo

Have you been on tour?

We haven’t stopped yet ;-)

Any tour stories to share?

Yes, but not here!

What was your favorite event to play?

St. Wendel Festival.

As an artist, what do you like most about Sidestage?

I find the idea intriguing and really hope that success is ‘round the corner.
