Caligold’s OG Kush Cannabis Infused Chocolate

A cannabis edible product review

In my recent search for marijuana edibles I can travel with, including something to help me sleep for most of a 10-hour flight to Europe, I visited the San Francisco dispensary Grass Roots. Since it was my first time at this dispensary I received a free gift, a 32 mg piece of Caligold’s OG Kush cannabis infused semi-dark chocolate. I have only used this once so far and let me tell you, this is one heck of an edible!

Because I’m in the market for a sleep aid, I tried this product at 10:30 pm. Coincidentally, the night I took this was the hottest day on record in San Francisco, which naturally posed an extra challenge for sleeping. I took ⅓ of the approximately 1.5 inch long chocolate wedge sample as directed by writing on the label. I could taste the herb, which was nice, and the chocolate was delicious and melted in my mouth. I laid down to sleep an hour later, at 11:30 pm.

I could feel a high from the THC and with the heat it was difficult to fall asleep. At one point I woke myself up laughing about something silly from the night before. I felt pleasantly giddy. I’m not sure what time I fell asleep except that it was after midnight -my best guess would be close to 1 am. I experienced cotton-mouth and had to keep drinking water, but finally fell into a deep, uninterrupted sleep.

The next morning I woke up after 8am feeling a bit lethargic. I made myself get up at 9am, splashed some water on my face and felt ready to go. I drank my morning ritual of lemon juice in water, then Emergen-C and milk thistle, and subsequently felt great all day. I accidentally left my matcha green tea at home when I left for the beach, but didn’t miss it too much. Throughout the day I was relaxed, but alert, and wrote some essays. I wasn’t particularly hungry that day either. Usually I am ruled by my stomach, but I didn’t crave food as much as I normally do.

I’m not sure how effective this would be for sleeping on a long flight, particularly because of the cotton-mouth effect, but I look forward to trying Caligold’s OG Kush chocolate again. I may try combining it with a cannabidoil (CBD) product to see if it balances things out.
