Hey Zaron,
I read your post with interest as I live in East Africa, in a country that doesn't have hereditary surnames and the idea of which is met with revulsion and suspicion. As such a woman doesn't change her name upon marriage and no siblings share a name. Instead, parents chose a name either based on their tribe or clan while others give names based on what they hope for their children (e.g Muwanguzi-winner, Mbabazi-peacemaker). Usually it is a mixture of both so that the child’s lineage is evident. I think its lovely. :)
