For big companies and multinationals the traditional proprietary way is definitely not out of the window yet. However, majority of businesses are small to medium size for whom the benefits of big installations are highly questionable.

For example in the manufacturing industry grand majority of companies are SMEs for whom the risks of traditional solutions outweigh the benefits — it’s too expensive and the project is likely to die since too much time commitment is needed, and once installed, new employees need extensive training which is a real pain. At least this is what I hear at MRPEasy when conversing with manufacturing business owners who turn to us.

The SaaS model is going places and it will take over sooner or later. Ten years ago it was crazy to store your (business) data on the cloud, now it is normal already — in next ten years people who deem local installations the norm will be lone enthusiasts.
