Fighting Depression — Silence Unchained
I had a friend reach out to me. She didn’t want to get out of bed. I asked her why? She said, she felt there is nothing left to live for. She asked me what I could say or do to encourage her because I seem to have undying faith. I said, “Babe my faith starts to die all the time. There are things I do to keep it alive. I’m human. I fall. I really screw things up. And I’ve had and still have plenty of days where I feel like I’m spinning wheels. But when I feel that faith slipping of mine, I pray. I read. I consult with people who I know will encourage me. I stay away from people who will challenge me. It’s a daily routine. I don’t just go to church and make it through the week. Sometimes I can’t even make it there. I remind myself how many people have harder battles to overcome. I remind myself how many people I can help and reach and keep away from turning to prescriptions or doctors.
I remind myself to love and value me because Jesus loves and values me. And that is how I keep my faith alive.”
Pastor shared today in church, “When you are hopeless you feel helpless. As long as you’re hung up on something, you won’t do anything about it.”
Please if you learn nothing else in life from me, strength comes from things we think we can’t do but through God we learn we can. Whatever holds you down in life will try to hold you down again at some point because you revealed a weakness. Just keep moving forward. Call on God to lift you when you feel you can’t move. Call on God to love you when you feel unloved. He is there. Surround yourself with people who care.Clean house. Call me. I’ve fought depression all my life. While it takes extra effort it’s absolutely worth the fight!
