Why I’m a Remainer who accepts the EU referendum result
No. You’re not. Stop patting yourself on the back for “being an outstanding guy.”
Accepting the result is not decrying that one side was racist and xenophobic or that their campaign was based on nothing but lies. It is respecting that the majority voted for the position you disagree with but that their votes were valid and based on a myriad of reasons beyond those that the media like to shove down people throat.
It’s accepting that the opposition had a narrative and your side had a narrative and the truth lies somewhere in the middle and that the people are not that stupid to act based on a random right-wing or left-wing publication portrayal but had their own ideas.
If there is a decisive shift in public opinion, then it is a subject worth revisiting.
If you’d like, I can arrange to have a survey indicate that 384% of the qualified voters, now support Remain. Or Leave, if that is what you want. Quite easy, actually.
There are no “do-overs” and no “I’ve changed my mind.” You can’t propose a referendum again and again until the result fits your preferred outcome.
