That’s a nice marketing statement but in reality, this is not something you stand by.

Blocking is not just a tool for an author to escape harassment or petty squabbles but a tool to censure others. Why would blocking someone stop him from reading a writer posts, commenting on them, and allow others to continue the discussion? The person blocking doesn’t need to be notified or even know that a comment was left.

In essence, it’s a tool for the weak to remain in their echo-chamber and restrict others from reading the criticism, as it won’t appear with the rest of the comments and only people who follow the person can see the criticism.

This is not the functionality of a platform that seeks to start a conversation but a functionality that seeks to suppress it.

The same goes to the functionality that allows authors to hide the comments. Like blocking, the authors don’t need to see them but hiding them from everyone else seems petty and counter-productive to this mission statement.
