Would anyone like to explain to me how journalism became “he said that and this on Twitter?”

What substance could anyone glean from a short tweet made by a compulsive shitposter? Do people know what twitter is? Do you read accounts other than those of politicians and pundits? Have you ever found someone on that platform who doesn’t sound like a complete moron, trying to cram an entire idea into a 140 character tweet?

I remember as a kid watching movies and shows about journalists digging deeper, meeting with shady people to get to the truth, considering the facts and what ‘facts’ don’t seem to fit the narrative being weaved. Apparently, I was misled into believing that that is journalism.
