One year later, we are back organizing the Toronto Jam for Good. There is a lot of work involved in it but if you surround yourself with the right people, you get great results like the ones Roxi already talked about.

Doing things again helps us to do them better, so we want to start this year by publishing our Code of Conduct. It’s always important, and even more when you have “for good” in your event title, that we create inclusive spaces where people can be their best selves, and come up with great ideas while having the best time.

There are many codes of conduct out there, but we were influenced mainly by the Hack Code of Conduct and the Scotland OneTeamGov Code of Conduct, so you will find multiple similarities here:

Our Jam for Good provides a safe and comfortable environment experience for everyone, regardless of but not limited to their gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, political views and previous hackathon attendance or lack of.

Different people process information and handle relationships differently. We ask participants to listen openly to each other, being aware of those around them and including everyone in the conversations.

We have zero-tolerance for harassment, and sexual language and imagery are not appropriate in any form. Jam participants violating this will be expelled immediately from the jam without a refund.

This applies to all the participants in the Jam, regardless of their involvement. All the participants will have access to contact details of two members of the organization, so they can talk to someone anytime if they need to.

We hope this will help us to create an even better Jam, with successful projects and what’s even more important for us, participants that can get the most of this experience while respecting each other.
