We’ve been busy here at BreezoMeter! We recently launched not one, but two new innovative air quality products: an interactive air quality map, and a pollution monitoring dashboard that we can use at conferences to display our capabilities in real-time.

As a product manager in our headquarters in Israel, I was responsible for the creation and release of both of these products, and we’re really excited to see them go live. In this post, I’d like to dive into the story behind both offerings, what problems they solve, what challenges we faced, and what we’re doing to improve them.

Interactive Air Quality Map

What was the problem?

A lot of businesses are interested in what our air quality data can do for them. But, it is sometimes challenging for our clients and future clients to understand how air pollution information can be displayed in an engaging way. That’s why we decided to create a simple, user-friendly application that would give people a better idea of what BreezoMeter’s data is really capable of.

The solution

We decided to create an interactive air pollution map and host it on our website (check it out here). We’re continually adding new features to our air quality API, everything from pollen data to AQI forecasting tools, and the map lets people try out our new features for themselves. It inspires both current and future clients, along with other stakeholders, to see all of the possibilities that real-time air quality data can provide. This turned out to be a huge success: users loved trying out the map and looking up their own cities, and its launch was covered in major publications like VentureBeat, Mashable, Forbes, Business Insider, and more.

The main challenge of this was to make our data clear, intuitive, and self explanatory. The collaboration between Marketing, Design and R&D teams made it possible for us to overcome this difficulty. I’m proud that such important information is now available to billions of people across the world.

What’s next?

Making the interface more playful and educational by introducing more information, like about the health effects of air pollution, what causes it, and how it disperses across place and time. We’re excited about the initial response to the interactive map, and look out for improvements in the near future!

Air Pollution Dashboard for Conferences

What was the problem?

The BreezoMeter team attends a lot of conferences (hint: we’ll be at MWC later this month in Barcelona. Meet with us!). Tradeshows are typically very busy, loud, and full of distractions, which can sometimes make it difficult to explain how our air quality API works to potential clients.

The solution

We decided that a dashboard, which displayed our unique air quality features and benefits live and in an engaging way, would be a great tool to get people interested in our offerings. So, we designed a simple, visually attractive dashboard that showcases some of BreezoMeter’s core features — real-time, hyperlocal data, forecasting, historical trends, and more — that catches the attention of any passerby. It was designed to be used on large TV screens, laptops, and ideally be supported on tablets as well. Here’s what it looks like:

This was a challenging project, from start to finish. But, as a new member to the BreezoMeter team, the main thing I’ve learned is that this team believes that anything is possible, as long as you can imagine it. They’re an inspiring, professional group of people, and it made working on this project a great experience.

What’s next?

We’re proud of how the dashboard turned out, and can’t wait to unveil it at Mobile World Congress and our other events this year. We’re always looking to improve it, too: we’d like to make it available for many more people to watch, understand, and interact with it. I’d also like to add additional widgets that further demonstrate the power of BreezoMeter’s real-time, hyperlocal air quality data, because there’s a lot more beneath the surface that we’d like to share.

Wondering what the air pollution is like on your street? Check out our interactive map for yourself, and see what you find. If you’re wondering how air quality data can be incorporated into your products, set up a time to chat with one of our air quality specialists. Thanks for reading!
