I SAY BULLSHIT!
Being copied is the highest form of laziness.
I get it, everything has been done 10 times over, yadda yadda yadda
I know it, we are now one of 19 order ahead Apps (that I know of) in Australia. I am working on a new tech product and each week something similar pops up on my radar.
I meet people and they share ideas with me and sometimes I can be in two different states and hear the exact same concept being presented, two days apart.
See where I am going with this? There is enough for everyone, ideas are easy, it’s all in the execution BUT don’t copy what someone else has done.
When I see my stuff copied it just shits me off, not because I am offended but because I think someone has missed an opportunity to make their mark, what I have done, is done, you go do your thing — take it to another level, there is enough for everyone but copying will catch up with you.
You can take my ideas, style, design, words, model but you can’t copy my awesomeness, grit and persistence. Ideas, style, words and models will change and evolve they have too — why start out with someone else’s? You will never be able to keep up! AND if this is how you start out eeeep!
Anyway that is enough of that, I am not going to name and shame but I am going to call it out, being copied isn’t flattery, it’s laziness and in this startup word, laziness wont get you far!
