New Years 2016

As I rode the train back from a glorious time of reunion with old friends (Joe & Jo Brook, Josh Evans, Sof Crump and her friends Milla and Jeremy, Hywel Davies, and Sam Baldry) I, along with many others in the world, was pondering the new year. What does the next year hold in store for me?

A word that rose to my heart and mind on that train was discipline. Whatever the mood, whatever the season, no matter how busy, tired, weak, sad, or frustrated, to keep the first things the first things.

And as I spent time with my Lord this morning, I feel like a phrase took shape and flesh:

the discipline of stillness that leads to unyielding zeal

That is what I desire for myself this coming year. But, I need you Jesus, I need you for it to become a reality.

A desire with bones as well as flesh

  • I want to grow in love of hearing God’s voice
  • I want to grow in prayer & intercession personally
  • I want this to be stretching but not burdensome

And so I plan to: everyday, in the morning, spend time reading God’s word. I will be guided in this by the readscripture.org reading plan. As I spend time reading, I want to be meditating to enjoy his presence, to understand and to apply what I’m reading, and to let this shape how I pray.
