No stone or sling, just a razor stare
Curdling, naturally, to Earth’s full glare
Inside Goliath’s pea-sized heart
A much, much smaller thing, than her
A braggart’s pride hides his boy
An unloved, wounded, petty thing
Sailed straight for hell on Earth
Cold killer in all but name
Now he stands, his back to her
Holding his tantrum inside his shirt
Too late to turn aside, he lies
(Redemption now long denied)
Or chart a different course
In olden days, they’d kill the king
Right before his crowded court
Now, craven men in sombre suits
Leave it to a girl, sixteen
