Lessons from a Design Intern

Coming from an academic background in design as well, I fully understand the frustrations with the mismatch between formal education and real-life design work. I can only speak for the university that I’m currently attending, but I do believe that an academic design approach is failing to educate design practitioners for the real world. Looking back, I would probably have chosen an education with a practical approach rather than academic, eg. the courses offered by General Assembly, Hyper Island or the Interaction Design program on SVA.
