The trend is rapidly rising, unless JavaScript fails somehow in the next two years, it’ll overtake Java. It’s not even to do with web or desktop, JavaScript is being used on smart watches and other embedded systems these days, it’s everywhere. Web is going full-stack JavaScript, desktop apps being written in Electron.

Personally, I don’t have a dog in the race, I’ve taken positions as a Java developer, JavaScript developer and .NET developer. Language is not that big of a concern to me. I do like JavaScript best out of those three, maybe even in general (I do like Haskell and Forth a lot, so I’m not sure, and I’ll forever love Pascal).

As long as it’s not COBOL (the memories D:) I’m good.
