An Attitude of Gratitude

“Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation.”
It’s the era of taking care of yourself. More people are investing time and money on themselves through gym memberships, eating a clean diet, retail therapy, spa treatments, and more.
And it’s great. Self-care is mandatory in this day and age. It prevents burnout, keeps you feeling young, helps you to cope with stress, and increases productivity. By feeling your best, you begin to perform your best.
There is one daily habit that experts recommend to add into your daily self-care routine. This habit does not cost a cent and takes minimal time and energy. However, its effects are powerful.

People who show daily gratitude report “higher levels of alertness, enthusiasm, attentiveness, energy, and sleep quality.” Those who show gratitude regularly are more empathetic towards others. They are also more likely to know how to help friends/family going through difficult periods.
There is also a direct link between showing gratitude and our physical wellbeing. Those who show gratitude report less health problems because they prioritize their well-being. Having positive mental thoughts can also trigger physiological changes in our body by releasing endorphins and increasing our stamina levels.
Three Easy Ways to Incorporate Gratitude:
- Say it out loud.
It’s easy to forget our manners, especially when most of our interactions happen through screens. Saying a simple “thank you” to a friend, family member, or local coffee shop barista can not only help you increase your own happiness, but it can also help put a smile on someone else’s face.
- Keep a Gratitude Journal.
Instead of grabbing your phone to check your emails and messages first thing in the morning, grab your journal and jot down 3 things that you are grateful for. At night, look back on your day and write down any thoughts or reflections that you have. The Five Minute Journal is a popular tool to help kickstart this habit.
- Meditate.
Start your day with 5-minutes of solitude and set an intention for gratitude. Use “Gratitude Practice” to explore how to live with gratitude. Try our “Living with Gratitude” series for one week to help you feel more connected, clear, and compassionate.
