7. Keep writing.
Surviving the Dissertation Long Haul

I think this is the most valuable advice, although all the tips are very useful, albeit not very surprising (but that’s not what they’re supposed to be!). I had a few bad weeks early this year and didn’t touch my dissertation project and that turned out to be a big mistake: you lose the connection to your thoughts and your text if you don’t keep it up, just like you would be losing the connection to a friend if you don’t talk to them regularly.

Just like a lover, my project is spinning around in my head all the time and a lover wants the kind of attention you readily want to give, so writing every day feels like making love… at least that’s the most positive association I can come up with when I catch myself cursing, because I feel like I am making no progress at all.
