Title: A Superior cookbook

Review: The recipes look delicious, though a lot of ingredients. This is not a “healthy” vegan cookbook. It is more of a junk food vegan cookbook. A lot of oil! You can make anything taste good with enough oil. Some of the recipes include other entire recipes, so when you see there are only ten ingredients it fools you, because you have another ten ingredient recipe that is part of the other recipe. Still, sometimes I want a junk food vegan recipe and these are terrific. An excellent addition to my cookbooks. For the reviewer who complained about the title “Superiority Burger Cookbook”, Superiority Burger is the name of the restaurant that originated these recipes. And yes, you may not like to hear it, but a vegan burger IS superior if you do not want to have a heart attack or stroke or get cancer. Also you do not have to eat an animal, and there is more food for everyone else on the planet when grain is eaten by people, not cows.

Review: I bought the book primarily for the burger recipe
It was alot of work and will probably not make it very often
Recipe calls for course bread crumbs, didn’t say dried or fresh
Called for rst’d fennel seed powder which i couldn’t find on any shelf of 4 grocery stores
So bought seeds rst’d and ground, alot of work for 2 teaspoons
1 cup of carrots rst’d in a 425 *F oven………huge waste of electriciy!!!
The end product was FANTASTIC but truly don’t know when i could find this much time again for 1 recipe!!!

Title: Funky and Fun Cookbook

Review: This is a really fun cookbook, full of yummy sounding (haven’t had the chance to actually try any yet) recipes and wonderful photos. The first recipe in the book is for their signature veggie burger, and although the list of ingredients is a little formidable, they sound as though they would combine to make one tasty burger. All the recipes are imaginative but doable, no real obscure ingredients or odd combinations. As a long time vegetarian, I have seen veggie burgers improve tremendously over the last few years, but the key to liking them is to enjoy them for what they are, which is not a regular burger. This book definitely gets that. Superiority Burger looks and sounds like a pretty cool place, and I would love to see one around here. Alas, though, I kind of doubt that will ever happen, and I don’t foresee any trips to NYC, so I’ll be happy with the cookbook.

Review: When I first got this book, the pictures and lists of unusual ingredients made my mouth water. Then I made the superiority burger and found that the proportions of some ingredients were way off. For example it is not possible to cook 1 cup of quinoa in 1&1/2 cups of water and get it to be fluffy. It took at least 2 or more cups of water. Another example is the potato starch slurry which needs much more water. Who writes a cookbook and can’t even get the proportions of the signature dish correct?

Title: The World’s Best Vegetarian Cookbook….if you know what you’re doing

Review: Let me preface this review by saying that I am a massive fan of Superiority Burger the restaurant, and I bought this cookbook after moving to LA when I was severely missing Brooks Headley & co’s incredible food. You also don’t have to be a vegetarian or vegan to appreciate these dishes. This book has allowed me make extremely faithful reproductions of the originals in my own kitchen, and has given me renewed appreciation for the amount of time and love that goes into SB’s food. When I cook from this book, it’s typically an all day (or at least all afternoon) adventure and I usually make multiple dishes at once. Most of these recipes require multiple hours of prep work and require quite a bit of kitchen know how. Many steps are vague or omitted under the assumption that you have some cooking experience under your belt. (I’ve never worked in a restaurant but I’ve been an avid home cook my entire life). You’ll probably have to make a couple trips to a specialty grocery store or farmer’s market to find some of the more obscure ingredients. All that said, if you’re willing to take the plunge, you will be generously rewarded with food so delicious you’ll have to keep asking yourself if you really did make that yourself. I treasure this cookbook above all others in my kitchen and I hope someday to cook through it cover to cover. For added authenticity, might I also suggest picking up a couple black plastic trays and disposable boats and bowls at your local restaurant supply store?

Title: Poorly put together

Review: This is the first cookbook I’ve ever encountered where the photos are blurry and the recipes are straight up missing steps/directions. It feels like it was hastily assembled on someones home computer. The recipes feel kind of not appropriate for home use in the sense that there is a monumental amount of prep for many which makes sense in a restaurant setting where all the basic ingredients are prepped and ready to assemble.

Review: I really enjoy this cookbook. It is awesome and has vert cool flavor combinations that I probably wouldn’t be able to conceive of. This book is for more advanced eaters, but the techniques are pretty easy to apply no matter the level. Just follow the directions and everything comes out as dictated. I have never been to Suprerioty Burger yet, but I am making a pilgrimage soon! Cheers!

Review: Ok 1st off cons. Photos are not crisp…I’m not eating the photos and they are fine, whimsical and descent. 2nd recipes sometimes rely on other recipes in the book…well welcome to real cooking.
