On the first anniversary of the CII-organized “Surakshit Khadya Abhiyan,” Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Mr. Ram Vilas Paswan has urged the industries to set aside a specific percentage of funds for raising consumer awareness of food safety as it is becoming a major concern during the holiday season.

He also emphasized that consumers should arm themselves with the knowledge required to detect food adulteration in a variety of items, including cooking oil, milk, water, etc., in order to prevent health hazards. Eighty percent of all preventable deaths are caused by contaminated food and water, according to a recent report by the Public Health Foundation of India.

According to the survey, children and the elderly are most susceptible to the negative consequences of contaminated food. The following details a number of recent health outbreaks in several Indian states that were brought on by contaminated food consumed during religious holidays. Ironically, in order to increase their profit margins, food manufacturers

frequently mix the manufacturing of food with the use of pesticides, fertilizers, carbide, coloring additives, and other dangerous chemicals. As a result, every year the country’s health index declines, leading to deaths. Food adulteration has become a severe problem, exacerbating the already terrible situation of the Indian health system and peaking during the holidays.

The government raids several restaurants and other establishments that purposefully poison food each year. But because food adulteration has been around for so long, many are able to avoid legal action.

That being said, given how inadequately the government continues to enforce the law, it would be unjust to place the entire blame on food makers.

The lack of established guidelines makes it impossible for law enforcement to put greater pressure on food manufacturers. Several pesticides used on fruits and vegetables do not have Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) established by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

News of the level of pollution in milk and water, two of the most essential ingredients used in food preparation, has alarmed people across the country. Out of all the states or union territories from which water samples were collected for testing, Chandigarh had 100% adulteration, Jharkhand had 75%, Andhra Pradesh had 70%, Karnataka had 66%, and Tamil Nadu had 58%. Similarly, milk samples from Himachal Pradesh showed a 92% contamination level; Jharkhand (45%), Chhattisgarh (38%), Jammu & Kashmir (32%), and Madhya Pradesh (28%), on the other hand, showed high levels of contamination.

Fiinovation strongly denies the rash acts committed by companies who create contaminated food and risk the safety and health of innocent people.

Using methods of sustainable manufacturing to make goods that are green is a great idea, and the proceeds made from marketing should be spent on informing consumers about how to handle food safely.

In addition, we encourage that the government implement strict regulations regarding food safety and make sure that offenders feel severe repercussions from the law.
