What does Kyrie’s Potentional Departure from Cleveland mean for the NBA?

As of July 21, reports had been surfacing about all star point guard Kyrie Irving’s potential depart from Cleveland. According to reports, the Cavalier is seeking for his team to trade him as he wants to enter a system where he could be the focal point of the team. Potential destinations for Irving are the San Antonio Spurs, the New York Knicks, the Minnesota Timberwolves or the Miami Heat, 2 of which are not in the East. So the question that arises is what does Kyrie’s potential move do to a already deprived Eastern Conference and the NBA as a whole?
I believe that this move will benefit the Eastern Conference. Kyrie’s potential addition to other teams in the East or departure from the conference can help level the playing field. If he leaves the East and joins the Spurs or the Timberwolves, he can play in a system led by Greg Popovich, or be the focal point in Minnesota alongside Jimmy Butler. If he stays in the East and goes to teams such as the Heat or the Knicks, his addition can improve a struggling situation in both cities, which can ultimately lead to a deep run in the playoffs. And personally, I believe it opens doors for a thriving young team such as the Celtics to win the Eastern Conference next season.
The Celtics were the Number 1 seed in the East entering the playoffs this year, but only managed to win one game against the Cavaliers- who had swept through the playoffs until that point. The NBA playoffs had become a comical specticle with a superteam in each conference dominating the league, to the point where spectators became bored. As for me, I was one of these people. I was bored of the NBA playoffs. Don’t get me wrong, there were some great games in the playoffs this year, but the overall plot was boring. Through every stage of playoffs, the gear never shifted. Everyone knew it was going to be the Cavs and the Warriors in the finals.
But I have to say, some of my favorite games of this years playoffs were played by the Celtics. They had a 6 game series with the Bulls and a 7 game series with the Wizards until they were ultimatley held to just 1 win against the Cavaliers that ended their playoff run. The Celtics are a very entertaining team to watch. And with the addition of Gordan Hayward and the elimination of Kyrie Irving on the opposition, the Celtics may have a legitimate chance of beating Lebron James and the Cavaliers next season.
Since the offseason had begun, the Western conference has strenghtened up extremely in order to beat a Warriors superteam that was previously projected to win the next 3–4 NBA titles. This has resulted in many of the Eastern conference’s superstars to move to the West. If Kyrie had stayed on the Cavaliers, the Eastern conference would be a joke. Lebron and Kyrie only lost one game on their way to the NBA finals this year, and that’s when the Pacers had Paul George, the Bulls had Jimmy Butler and Carmelo hadn’t waived his no- trade clause with the Knicks. The Cavaliers would have won the conference before the season even begun. But Kyrie’s potential departure thickens the plot.
