Tsutomu Miyazaki during his trial.

Tsutomu Miyazaki, known as the “otaku murderer,” was born on August 21, 1962, in Tokyo, Japan. He was accused of abducting, physically molesting, and murdering four young girls, and cannibalizing and keeping the body parts of his victims as trophies. Miyazaki was born into a wealthy family and had a congenital disorder, so he decided to isolate himself from everyone and spend his time alone. To help with his loneliness, he began consuming large amounts of manga, anime, horror films, and adult films, which distracted him from his studies. He began photographing girls’ underwear while they were playing tennis.

His biological mother was his elder sister, implying that his father slept with his daughter. Miyazaki’s family felt he was strange and his father never listened to him, and his two younger sisters found him repulsive. After his grandfather’s funeral, he ate part of his ashes to make him stay forever. Mari Konno, a four-year-old girl, was kidnapped by Tsutomu Miyazaki in August 1988. He grabbed her throat and squeezed it until her death, then stripped her lifeless body and engaged in heinous sexual acts.

On October 3, 1988, he strangled Masami Yoshizawa and engaged in necrophilia before fleeing with her clothes. On December 12, 1988, Erika Namba, a four-year-old girl, was his third victim. On June 6, 1989, Miyazaki found Ayako Nomoto, age 5, playing alone in a park and murdered her in the same modus operandi. He wrapped the body, took it to his house, and molested it for two days, making videos of it, extracting and drinking the blood from her hands, and eating some of her organs. Tsutomu Miyazakiwas was arrested in July 1989

His father reported him to the police and found 5,000 videotapes and footage of atrocities he inflicted on his victims. Miyazaki maintained a calm demeanor throughout the trial and wrote an angry letter to his father, blaming him for everything. After a seven-year trial, he was sentenced to death by hanging and executed on June 17, 2008.
