Unfortunately, I just didn’t have the space to get into the hypotheses about the Flynn effect — that would be a feature in its own right! Suffice to say, yes, changes in education could play a role, but probably don’t explain everything (because gains are found in very young children who have not yet completed much, if any, formal education). The 2014 study is open-access, so I’d urge you to take a look if you’re interested. They have a nice run-down of possible explanations for the rise in IQ scores.
