More and more people I know now avoid the USA. It used to be when travelling to the UK people would go via the USA, stop off at LA for a few days. Now most go via HongKong, Dubai, Singapore etc simply to avoind the USA.
I have probably been to the US about 10 times, spending weeks there for work or on holiday, however we as a family have decided that we are unlikely to ever go back there. Last trip we spent about $20,000 on accommodation, food, transport, entertainment, gifts, etc etc etc. For work, when we need to do training courses we now opt to do them in the EU, its considered safer.
Thing is, its a big world out there with lots to see and do, so we are voting with our wallet.
Sure other countries could be doing the same thing, but the point is the USA is now no better, its no longer “leader of the free world”. My experience so far though has been “no problems” going to HongKong, the EU or the UK. To be a “leader” it means setting a good example for others to emulate, to follow, that is no longer the USA.
I am also having to consider my next computer, given the US attitudes can we safely assume that technology from the USA is free of spyware ?, I am no longer sure.
