Dear Your Friends @ Medium

I’m having trouble with the word Recommend. Many people seem to Recommend everything they read of mine, including my half of what might almost be a private conversation, albeit one held in public. My inclination is only to Recommend things that make me think Wow, this is excellent! It would be nice to think that my writing could always be up to that standard, but I don’t believe it is.

There isn’t a middle way. I could really use a method of saying I read that thing of yours… that doesn’t imply …and I want to nominate it for an award; because sometimes — I have to say, wonderfully often — we do get that second feeling, but sometimes we just want to grunt acknowledgement, end of conversation, move on. If we (I) do nothing, the only thing the other person can do is look at their stats and wonder whether I was one of those numbers.

What do you think? An additional feature? Re-education for my correspondents? Or re-learning for me?
