Leavers were a loose amalgam of those still fighting the second world war, who believe their enemy should stay dead for ever or it doesn’t count; the political chancers who woke up on Friday thinking “Oo-er, we’ll have to do something now”; and the disposessed who get ignored until someone needs a scapegoat. Some of those last, of any age, will have heard the Remainers’ dire warning that “If we leave, house prices could fall”, and thought “Well, that would be a great outcome.” I can’t blame them.
