Today marks the end of week 10 of my journey in General Assembly’s Software Developer Immersive Program. There’s only two weeks left and I will have completed the cohort. I’ve learned so many things including ReactJs, APIs, and Expess and I am so proud that I invested in myself. I’m not going to mislead you by saying it has been tough. As a mother who is not only a Graphic Design Student but also a student in General Assembly’s Immersive, finding a balance early on was very important for my success. The program is built around lectures, labs, projects, and the option to have one on ones if you need them. I was able to keep going by having a vision board, staying determined, giving myself a mantra, marking off days on my calendar, and prayer.
My next step is to begin working as a Junior Web Developer. I would prefer a company that is in the Creative Field but I’m not limiting my choices. Of course I will continue Graphic Design School, but as a Developer I want to continue to build applications that solve real issues. I may even freelance until I land a job in my new career path. I want to pay it forward. Previously, I volunteered at a local Tech Company that goes out in the community and teaches Middle School aged youth coding. I want to continue that.
With that being said guys if I can leave you with one tip, it would be to INVEST IN YOURSELF. You only have one life to live. Make the most of each moment and leave your mark on the World.
