Are Oil & Gas Interests Positioning Themselves to Control Fort Collins City Council?

Joyce E McConnell, the newly hired President of Colorado State University, was appointed a Board Director at Antero Resources Corporation in February 2018. McConnell was hired from West Virginia University (WVU) where she was employed for the last two decades.

Antero Resources Corporation is a company engaged in extracting hydrocarbon resources via hydraulic fracturing (fracking). Bloomberg and the US Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) list McConnell as a Board Director for Antero Resources Corporation. It’s not an accident that McConnell has been moved into the Presidency of CSU and that she is a board member of an oil and gas company. In 2014, McConnell’s (WVU) law department was the recipient of a $100,000 donation from… Antero Resources Corporation. It’s just a question of time before those ‘donations’ start rolling into Colorado State University and City Council campaigns. We have to scrutinize everyone who is running for City Council and consider whether they are political placeholders for the oil and gas industry. Any Council member or council candidate employed at CSU can be subject to compromise based on administrative pressures i.e. capitulation to funding stakeholders. This is a critical issue that needs to be identified and addressed in the current City Council race. The community needs to understand the hidden political dynamics that have been instituted via CSU’s presidential appointment.
