Les Fetiches

My very first fashion collection

This look, modeled by Porsha Williams, was also worn to Cleveland Fashion Week.

Les Fetiches was a three-look collection that I designed and styled for Modista’s annual fashion show for 2014. Modista is a student-run fashion organization on the main campus of Kent State University, and it places a focus on students of color who major or have an interest in the fashion world. The theme for the annual fashion show in 2014 was Musee du Modista, inspired by both historical and modern art.

My collection in particular was inspired by a piece by Lois Mailou Jones, a female painter known for her work during the Harlem Renaissance, called Les Fetiches.

This was my first time designing a collection, and my first time making the types of garments that I made. I received a lot of positive feedback, and was even honored to have one of my looks worn to Cleveland Fashion Week!
