Proletariat’s Next Phase

Throughout the entire life of Proletariat, we’ve had amazing opportunities to work with some of the best partners in the industry. Today we get to announce one more. I could not be more excited to welcome Take-Two on board as a new investor and for the continued support of our previous investors as we continue to grow Proletariat as a creative force helping to shape both new genres of games as well as new ways to bring games to players.

Now feels like a good time to revisit what we think makes Proletariat special and how we have reached this point in our history.

Players First

We have spent the last seven years building games with the players in mind. All the way back to our first title, World Zombination, we have built our games in a transparent development environment and strived to create a true partnership with our players. To build a long-lasting live games community is absolutely essential and we’ve always invested heavily to ensure our players have great people around them, both other players and ourselves as developers.

Our most recent focus on social publishing around Spellbreak has shown how a new IP can build an organic and enthusiastic following using mutual trust between developers and players. Our pre-release development process has pioneered a new way to cultivate an audience while also refining what makes a title great. This only worked because we took a more human approach to the relationship with our players from the very start.

Innovative Multiplayer Games

Every time we embark on a new project we think hard about the few places we want to innovate and then invest heavily in those to create something unique. All of our previous titles show our focus on bringing new core mechanics, playstyles, and social interactions to players. We make the games we want to play, inspired by fun moments playing with our friends.

Quality in Everything We Do

Over the years we have kept the Proletariat team small and focused. Innovation is very hard and takes considerable time and effort and is often at odds with building something of quality. We have always strived to do both and this means making smart decisions and clever compromises to create high quality games and also to add a layer of polish that makes them a true joy to play. Those little details are important to us and we’re willing to put in the work to ensure we deliver that level of game to our players.

Loving What We Do Together

One thing we know for sure is that there are only so many projects that can be made across the lifespan of a studio. Games are difficult to make and they’re some of the most challenging things to build successfully. The passion we see from the players and from our fellow developers is what drives us through those difficult moments. The word love makes people uncomfortable but when you think about how you want to spend your time and the people you spend it with it is worth a thought. We love what we do and we’re lucky enough to do it with great people.

Thank you to everyone who has helped us along the way and specifically all the people who have helped me personally.

If you want to see me get reminiscent and philosophical check out this twitter thread for Proletariat’s 7th birthday.
