Reading this fills me with great sadness at what is happening to a great country, the United States of America. One does not need to read the runes to see how this is going to end; we all of us, both citizens and non-citizens of the USA, are diminished as human beings by what is happening. Two things I learn from this unhappy episode.
The first is this: never, ever belittle or humiliate another human being. The more powerful one is, the more gracious and accommodating one should be towards other human beings — especially those human beings who may for one reason or other be less than us. Now that it is clear as the day that Mr Trump is one of those people with an egg shell personality, Mr Obama was clearly in the wrong to humiliate him so publically.
But the second lesson is this: revenge is deadly. Deadly alike to the avenger and the one on whom revenge is visited; it destroys both. No wonder, those of us who happen to be Christians, it was drummed into our little heads from child up, that vengeance belongs to God. For it is written: “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” Romans 12: 17–19.
