Two things come to mind about this story: First, we live in an age full of hypocrites. I define a hypocrite as such a one who strains at a gnat; and ends up swallowing a camel — hump and all.
Secondly, everyman has a tender point. When Thetis dipped Achilles in the Styx, she held him by the heel; he was made invulnerable wherever the water touched him, but his heel not being covered with the water, was vulnerable, and it is precisely there that Paris shot his arrow, and Achilles died. So it is even with men; especially very powerful men.
