While on a Vagabonding adventure in Mexico, I stumbled upon a magnificent place. Puebla is located less than two hours from the capital, Mexico City, a gorgeous place that’s famous for rich history, cuisine and it’s outstanding art scene.

One of the things that I really like about Puebla is that it’s famous for it’s beautiful handmade ceramic work. The white and cobalt blue decorated art pieces, I saw that it was very similar to the ceramic art work that we have in Tunisia. I learned that this style was originally introduced to Andalusia by the Arabs in Spain. When the Spanish invaded Mexico, they built many cathedrals in Puebla, and wanted to decorate them with beautiful ceramic work that they had back home. One of the reasons for the popularity of this craft in Puebla, is due to the high quality of clay that is found in that region.

Due to the very traditional and skilled nature of this craft, there are only 9 certified workshops that specialize in Talavera in Mexico. Furthermore, in order for it to be considered genuine Mexican Talavera it has to be produced in Puebla under very strict regulations.

It was very impressive to see how well the the historical buildings of downtown were preserved, Puebla is one of the 5 best cities in Mexico that have a significant history in terms of architecture.

Walking through the city, the ambiance feels easy and very pleasant. Furthermore, the old beautiful Spanish architecture is the reason why Puebla is considered a world heritage site by UNESCO

Besides the iconic ceramic work and the mesmerizing building, Puebla is home to some of the best Mexican dishes, there’s a special spicy sauce called ‘molé’. The mole poblano is a savory sauce often served with chicken or turkey.

My favorite things to eat when in Puebla is the torta, it’s a very popular mexican sandwich, my go-to is the ‘milanesa’ that has breaded, deep-fried chicken breast, with cheese and avocado.

It was a surprise to see that one of the most popular foods in México , but especially Puebla is the ‘Tacos Árabes’, which is the mexican cousin of the shawarma sandwich, made popular by the Lebanese-Mexicans that migrated during the civil war.

Besides the capital city, there are many breathtaking little towns, that are considered magical villages in the state of Puebla, such as the mountain village of Zacatlan, and the beautiful village of Atlixco

The state of Puebla has some of the most gorgeous sceneries out there, acres of farm lands and mountains, not too far from Atlixco the majestic view of an active volcano can be observed
