1. Created a memory jar
I don’t have the photo of it since we created a memory jar when I was 12, when “selfies” and/or Facebooking/Instagramming are not that popular yet. I remember us filling a jar with slips of used paper, where each comes with a special memory that we have shared, reasons why I love her, and also and what makes my mom special. Then I will present it to my mom and sit beside her as she reads each writings in the paper. The memory jar is decorated with chalkboard paint, glitters, which looks awesome making it a keepsake that she cherished forever.
2. Scrapbooking with Mommy
I remember my mommy interviewing me and my siblings about the special things we love most about her. She has this old scrapbook that has all the transcribed thoughts and sentiments, special memories, photos, even words of wisdom… actually anything worth remembering about her, my mother.
3. Made a Blessing Book with Mommy
Me and my mom have a hardbound journal decorated with patterned papers that holds photos of me and my mommy. It also comes with a cute ballpen which she uses to record “what she is most grateful for as a mother”.
4. Cooking with my Mommy
My mom does the cooking at home, and I love cooking. So my mom taught me how to make fried banana, cake, chicken and pasta.
5. Planted a tree
I planted a tree in my mom’s backyard and I put it there just for her.
6. Handmade Cards
I created a handmade card for my mom when I was 3 years old. It’s cute and comes with a heartfelt, handwritten letter of love and appreciation.
7. Say thanks with flowers
I sent my mom her favorite flowers to show her how special she is! This was during mother’s day or her birthday.
8. A tablecloth memento made by Mom
My mom created a tablecloth memento made from a used fabric and some fabric pens. She asked me and my brother to sign the tablecloth with a special message to her. I do hope to find this someday as it is indeed a keepsake.
9. Letters from Mom
I remember my mom as someone who always writes a letter to my dad and to us, her kids. I used to save these letters in a special box which I plan to give to my kids when they become parents themselves.
10. Bedtimes with Mom
I wish I could turn back the hands of time to the good old days when my mom sang us to sleep.
When I think about my mom I think how much joy and happiness she has brought to my life. She is such a blessing to me and my family. We’ve had some rough stages when I was younger and yeah until now, but we have managed to get through it. I am very blessed and wouldn’t have it any other way.
Now she’s old, and all I want for her is to have a healthy and longer life. She needs a “Fountain of Youth” so she could live forever, or at least look as if age cannot touch her for as long as she’s allowed to prance about the Earth.
