I’m an admitted tutorial junky. There has to be a 12 step program for me somewhere. I love them. Get some in everyday.

But I agree with you 100% that watching them, following along even… is not the same as applying what you have learned. I like your idea of consuming a concept and that without doing it, it doesn’t stick so good.

There’s a lot of research pointing to the idea that neural pathways are made strong by reaching in deep and pulling things out of memory. That painful act is how our brains decide what needs to be made stronger. It’s just like lifting weights… the pain and muscle tearing is what drives the muscles to grow stronger and bigger.

All that said, if you have decent competency or experience with a topic, I feel you can read or watch and make gains. But to grasp a new concept… get the overview, then try it yourself.
