Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker?

How about Biologist, Radiologist or Rocket Scientist?

With the former, we harken back to previous days when kids’ learning and education was limited by the scope and times in which they lived.

Today, children have the world at their fingertips, due to the incredible advances we’ve made in STEM education. STEM — the acronym used to discuss Science, Technology, Engineering and Math — has become an increasingly important subject, given present times.

We live in a technological age: advances in almost every sector are fuelled by the latest scientific research. Think about it — whether it’s the food we eat, the water we drink or the devices we use to communicate with one another, STEM has most likely been a part of the journey. Yet in today’s news headlines there appears to be an increasing reversion to previous times, when scientific discovery and advances are questioned if not outright disputed. It’s troubling to see that a pervasive culture of anti-intellectualism has permeated much of society.

Case in point: just take a look at the current climate change crisis and its coverage in the news. It’s been proven that we are at a dire stage with respect to the damage that global warming is doing to our world, yet there are still…
