Designers shouldn’t code. They should study business.

I completely agree ! One very smart woman (director for a comms agency) long ago told me that in ALL of her staff she looked for those with the ‘mind of a magpie’. In essence what that meant was those with the curiosity to understand things outside of their main area of interest or practice. Only by being inquisitive to understand the bigger systems, methods, nature, etc can they apply real learnings to their job at hand. I apply this to my professional work as a designer and am frustrated when the bigger questions I ask are met with, ‘that doesn’t matter’ or ‘you don’t need to know that’.
