The little girl was led outside and unceremoniously put in the taxi… she had few possessions, a battered old doll, that had been gathered from the town dump, where her father worked. The rest, a few clothes, which also came from the dump as well, and stuffed into a grocery bag.

As the taxi pulled away, she stared out the back window, tears streaming down her face. She had no idea where she was going, or for that matter, why she was going… She had no idea what had caused this turn of events, only that she must be the blame. It was always her fault when things went wrong, or so she was always told.

It was a long drive, over 3 hours on the road, and she cried from the start of her journey to the end. The taxi driver had been kind and tried to ease her pain, but she could not be consoled. Her heart was broken, and her spirit as well.

Entering the Unfamiliar

Reaching her destination, and even after the long drive, the tears were still running down her face. The lady and man who met her, did what they could to console her and showed her to her new room. She was to share a room with two other young girls, although older than she.

The two were in the room when she arrived, and they showed no sympathy for her plight, both young girls, made fun of her crying. Although if they’d thought back, they would have realized they had done the same thing when they were sent off, too.

It had been a few days now, and she couldn’t sleep or eat, all that was on her mind was why? Only five years old, a cute little blue-eyed, blond haired child, who was skinny as a rake handle, and quiet as a tomb.

Once there had been happiness, or had thought so, but as time went by, she realized that now, there actually was that happiness. Not only were there other little girls to play with, but now she had brothers! Two little boys who actually adored and protected her from all that could cause harm.

As time passed, she had come to love the people who held her in their care, and they, in turn, reciprocated that love. A well-behaved child, and got along well with the two older step brothers and even the girls who had once made fun of her when first arriving. Finally feeling like a part of a family, something she hadn’t for a very long time.

Excelling at school work, her foster parents were sure she would some day get to a level to attend college. She was smart, and even if she was only 13 years old, they had already begun to fill her head with the possibilities.

Foster parents for many years, most of the children in their care called them Uncle Jack and Aunt Loretta. Two of the boys, who were actual brothers, had been adopted, and now had decided they wanted to adopt her. They put the legal process in motion and waited.

The Years Seem To Not Have Mattered

She had been with them for several years, and of all the foster children they had taken in, they loved her and wanted to make her their own. Since they had adopted the boys and were so very proud of them, they knew, she would always make them proud. Gentle and kind, even though there was a sadness still inside her, through time it would be overcome as well as the problems that had plagued her from childhood.

Finally, after a very long wait, Jack and Loretta were informed that her parents would not let the adoption go through. She was to be returned to them. So once again she was in a taxi looking out the back window…tears streaming down her face, and off to another unknown… With her heart and spirit being broken, once again she felt like nobody’s child..
