Haley House shows us community and love in action.

You don’t have to look hard at the Haley House to see their vision of love, respect and community. Their radically different approach is also a refreshingly simple one: direct, hands on and sincere. I am reminded of Gandi’s saying: “Be the change you want to see in the world.” The Haley House has been doing this since 1966, when Kathe and John McKenna rented a basement apartment in Boston’s South End and began taking in the men they found sleeping on the street.

Over 50 years later, the Haley House has grown yet remained true to their vision where community and love are the solution.

Love and community are a change I want to see, and I look forward to being part of a service group with Jacob, Michelle and Rachel that will give us a chance to see how the Haley House challenges typical systems and connects with the land and community to create a better option. As they say on their website, “You’ve got to go beyond your own little bubble. Get to a deeper level of understanding within yourself.” Be the change you want to see.
