Learning what to do in a fire drill doesn’t mean that it’s more likely that you child will be hurt in a school fire than a bus accident.
It doesn’t mean that we’ve “just accepted” that school fires are going to happen and it doesn’t mean that we are going to teach kids that it’s ok to play with matches or “just accept" a world where people set schools on fire.
We teach our children to protect themselves because we love them are scared for them and want them to be safe. At the same time we work for a world where these protections are increasingly unnecessary for those same reasons.
One does not take away from the other.
