Module 6: The New Way of Thinking!

Why does design thinking make sense in education?

Design thinking creates solutions for real world problems, applying design thinking to curriculum based projects that relate to real life situations creates purpose for learning. It allows students to gain a deeper understanding of their education whilst enhancing engagement and motivation as it caters for many learning strategies e.g. visuals. It encourages students to think outside the box and explores why improvement and innovations does not mean anything negative. Design thinking creates room for more questions, and questions = problem solving = solutions.

Why is it important to consider Design Thinking as a scaffold for learning in 2017?

The way we think and learn in the classroom is becoming more problem based and real-life based. Using design thinking as a scaffold for learning in the 21st century enables students to understand why they are learning what they are learning, it allows them to problem solve particular interests and the relevance becomes more important. Design thinking is the learning strategy of the future.
