Beautifully written, and articulated, Anna — though I expect no less from you no matter what the subject! :)

This view of love argues against the very premise of loving someone. It always seems a matter of semantics when it comes to that four-letter word — what it means to different people. Love without knowing someone, and without wanting them to be unafraid to be themselves, through life’s myriad experiences, each one of which has its own impact, is not love. Loving someone in a freeze-frame of who they were — or for that matter, who one wants them to be — has already killed love. What’s left is a static, stagnant emotion that arises from a wish unspoken by those who don’t want to live life but to pretend that life and love are photograph albums, never changing. So, no, not love.

In love, the scars and flaws and weaknesses are valued as much as the strengths and virtues and beauties. Without them, that person wouldn’t be who they are. This probably goes a long way to explaining why it’s so difficult to find love — and why so many consider it a myth :)

Writer of fiction and free verse. Pretty damned awful at both but it keeps me off the streets.
