Social Justice Warriors are often despised by gamers on the internet. Even the slightest moment of political sets them off. While it is true that SJWs are controversial, Anti-SJWs can be as bad if not worse. And the worse of this goes to… drumroll please…

… Miraheze Reception Wikis!

What’s that you may ask? Miraheze Reception Wikis are sites where users can rate forms of media such as movies, video games, tv shows, books and more as good or bad. While Miraheze itself isn’t a bad website in general, the Reception Wikis are what really boils your blood. So here are reasons why I don’t recommend the site.

Why Reception Wikis are not Reliable

*FACEPALMS*
  1. The very first problem is that they take things WAY TOO SERIOUSLY. They treat the Emoji Movie and the Last of Us Part 2 like it’s a creation from hell. While they are polarizing, they say otherwise.
  2. Building up on the last point, they also overpraise things like the Angry Video Game Nerd and My Little Pony. While these forms are enjoyed by many, they refuse to acknowledge the criticism directed at them. And any criticism the wikis do at them is very minor and not explained properly.
  3. Most of the time, they lack citations, making it very hard to take their claims seriously. And when they do have citations, most of the time it from a non-variable source or something that lacks details.
  4. Most Users and Admins are generally toxic, chauvinistic, mean-spirited, and arrogant. Basically to them, critics’ opinions are wrong and that you should only trust them. What’s even more ironic is that they used to criticize toxic fandoms in their now deleted Toxic Fandoms and Hatedoms Wiki page.
  5. Often, they contradict themselves and are very hypocritical. Sometimes, IT IS VERY NOTICEABLE.
  6. When I mean by that, it’s the fact that they treat opinions as facts, while actual opinions are just treated as opinions.
  7. They also use excuses to have opinions as facts themselves. On the now deleted Abby Anderson from the Last of Us 2 article on the also deleted Loathsome Characters Wiki page, they say that she was responsible for her father’s death since she was the one that talked her father into performing the surgery on Ellie which eventually leads to Joel killing her father. While this is true, if you really think about it by watching the cutscene of it again, Abby was unaware of the consequences for this, leading to the person that she is today.
  8. Speaking of opinions, they can’t handle other people’s opinions. They would often dismiss or worst, harass those who have a different opinion on them.
  9. Adding on the last point, they can’t take criticism themselves, while also calling out celebrities' who can’t take criticism. They would dismiss, harass, block, ignore, or worse, dox critics yet they deny any wrongdoing.
  10. Users who did something very minor apologized and changed their ways are often refuted by them. Their biggest example was with Hopeless Peaches. After Hopeless Peaches proved her innocence following her own allegations, the admins refused to forgive her. Fortunately, their article on her was deleted after a lot of backlash.
  11. Their Celebdumb articles are the worst of all the reception wikis. More often than not, they compare celebrities who did minor things, like Simon Pegg and Tom Cruise, to those who did something major, like Harvey Weinstein and Sia. In their words, if you did something SJW, you’re automatically Satan to them.
  12. Speaking of SJWs, they take them WAY MORE seriously than opinions. Almost all users go berserk if SJW’s mildly annoy them. One user even admitted to be psychotic.
  13. They also say they don’t condone harassment yet they end up doing it but not in the way you’d expect. They instead use tactics such as gaslighting, shit-talking, and as stated before, doxing to hide that it is harassment.
  14. Finally, the wikis itself. They tend to focus on cartoons, video games, movies, and books that are more popular while occasionally letting obscure forms of media on their sites. This is hypocritical since they called out the industry for not letting obscure forms of media not get attention.
  15. Miraheze itself is not a bad website, but the reception wikis end up giving it a bad name. They use the Miraheze to make their own safe space, which is ironic given that safe spaces are frowned upon.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Many of these articles are very interesting to read. Also, the articles do generally offer a good point about the form of media they are criticizing, like Cuties, Allen Gregory, Big Rigs, etc.
  2. There are some civil users, such as Trevor807. However, they are far in between the toxic users.
  3. Sometimes, the sources they do cite are variable.
  4. Overall, the problems mostly focus on the users and admins, not the site itself.

THE BOTTOM LINE

This is not thing we have to take down or boycott. Hell, as a user of the site, there are some good things there. But the lesson of the day from learning this is the fact that like SJWs, Anti-SJWs have their own safe-space. And it’s there.

Pretty much the face of reception wiki admins to they find this article.
