Update: Please use the #ДАНСwithme hashtag to follow the protests on Twitter.

Dear European Countries,

You’ve always complained about us, Bulgarians, not being ready for the European Union. You elect parties in your local parliaments, who make a strong stand against immigration. You don’t want uneducated and poor people to come and abuse your welfare states. You are looking at the tip of the iceberg, but failing to grasp the whole of it.

Not all Bulgarians are thieves and criminals. The majority of immigrants who come to your countries may not be the best people, but they are not the typical Bulgarian. Some of them go to study abroad and work hard, but most (the ones you see) are people who have nothing to lose and immigration is an easy decision for them. The true Bulgarians, the educated working Bulgarians are different. Many stay in Bulgaria and build careers. They start families and try to provide for them. They start new businesses. They create. But the government gets in their way.

They need your help. They need an example to follow. They need to know how to fix their country so that there’s no mass immigration to Europe. They need to eradicate the mafia and corruption that has been ruling Bulgaria for the better part of the 20th century.

During the last three days, more than 20,000 people went out on the streets of Sofia to protest against the fresh Socialist government (created by a parliamentary majority who didn't win the elections). These are the same socialists who bankrupted the country 15 years ago. They are the inheritors of the communist idea, which systematically destroyed the economy and people for 45 years. They are the mafia, which needs to be eradicated. The spark, which initiated the protests, was the appointment of Delyan Peevski for security chief. He has a media empire, which gives him the power to bend news and change public opinion. We will not let that happen.

We, Bulgarians, are tired of abuses. We want a working democracy. Help us win this. We will all be better for it.

Here’s what you can do:

- Write about our protests. I know we’re not Turkey and things are not so glamorous and sensational, but they are happening. Helps us bring down the media curtain and let all Europe know that we want change.

- Criticize our government. They are doing things, which are so unethical, that it’s easy to take a stand against them. Say that you don’t approve it.

- Support the protests. All foreign opinions matter. Let us know that we’re not doing this for nothing.

Help us win the goodwill of all Bulgarians from all the demagogues who are trying to brainwash them. Help us become what you've always wanted us to be, and be vocal about it.
